Roman Reigns debuted with The Shield and was given a huge push since day one. he was the chosen one after John Cena, he was the one handpicked by Mr. Mcmahon to be the face of the company and at first, we didn't want it. We didn't Believe That he was the one. I mean shortly before this title reign started, he was handcuffed with dog food all over him. The Big Dog, that was a test. Beat the Undertaker, that was a test. Can you handle the hate? The Pressure? Can you handle the boos?
He showed he could, wrestling great matches night after night, very little botches, timing always on point and now, 1000+ days later, he's shown that he can carry a company on his back. remember when John Cena killed Roman in a promo on Raw and Roman forgot his lines. Cena called him out right there and said know why I'm still here, because you can't do your job. That, That moment right there was the turning point. Cena taught him what it was to be the man and I swear Roman never forgot that moment and went to work becoming the best version of himself that he could. The Tribal Chief Was Born.
Now is the Tribal Chief the greatest personality Wrestling has ever known? Arguably Yes. But why? You could write that storyline for anyone, would it be as compelling? Probably not, and we can thank the pandemic for that. Yes, Covid-19 played a huge part in the shape of wrestling today, let me explain. If Roman never left because he was susceptible to Covid-19, the Tribal Chief doesn't exist today. In between leaving, getting new veneers, and returning, the acting chops and the aggressive style of wrestling had to be learned.
Roman didn't leave and go sit at home on the couch and do nothing. now this isn't confirmed but I think ROman spent alot of time around a wrestling ring honing his craft and also alot of time with an acting coach. I think the whole family did because what we are watching right now, is cinematic gold and all the key players, and even the supporting cast, deserve Oscars. Now maybe this is just the Paul Heyman effect, take a star and make him a superstar or if it's just Roman was built for this but man, something in that boy changed for the better after Cena smashed his confidence in front of millions. so thank you John, you didn't bury Roman, you made Roman!
Hate him or love him, Roman Reigns is the only one that matters in wrestling right now, without him and this storyline, what would we really have? From any promotion? What else has you on the edge of your seats, selling out arenas around the world effortlessly, bringing in the most money WWE has ever seen. Pretend like it's not your cup of tea, pretend you don't like it, but you gotta respect the work that every single person in this story has put in and applaud them all. Roman Reigns is this generation of wrestling's saviour and they chose right.
It's the little things he does, the mannerisms, the confidence, the way he talks to the camera, every little thing he does, we watch. Captivating isn't the word. Roman Reigns is on another level as Michael Cole always tells us and he means it. God Mode activated ☝️🩸
